KIKUSUI TOS5401 AC/DC Hipot Tester

AC and DC Hipot Testing for Electrical Safety Evaluation

The KIKUSUI TOS5401 combines AC and DC withstanding voltage testing in a single electrical safety tester for electronic equipment, components, quality assurance, and production test environments.

The instrument provides AC withstand testing up to 5 kV / 100 mA with 500 VA rated output and DC withstand testing up to 6 kV with a maximum rated current of 10 mA. A high-efficiency PWM switching amplifier stabilizes the high-voltage output against AC line-voltage fluctuations.

5 kV / 100 mA AC 500 VA AC withstand capability for electrical safety testing.
6 kV DC DC withstand testing with up to 10 mA rated current and 50 W maximum rated output.
Discharge Detection Adjustable LPF and HPF detection helps identify momentary, arc, corona, and high-frequency discharge behavior.
7-inch Touchscreen Touch-panel operation plus LAN, USB, and RS232C support bench and automated testing.

Programmable voltage rise and fall control, current-based PASS/FAIL judgment, DC forced discharge after testing, automated two-step test programs, and remote communication functions support repeatable R&D, QA, certification, and production-line workflows.

5 kV / 100 mA AC Hipot Testing

Provides an AC test-voltage range of 0.05 kV to 5.00 kV with 500 VA maximum rated output and 100 mA maximum rated current at output voltages of 0.5 kV or higher.

6 kV DC Hipot Testing

Supports DC withstand testing from 0.05 kV to 6.00 kV with 10 mA maximum rated current and 50 W maximum rated output.

Stable PWM High-Voltage Output

A PWM switching amplifier maintains stable output despite changes in the AC input supply. At 5 kV with no load, KIKUSUI specifies ±0.3% output variation for an input range of 90 V to 250 V.

Adjustable Discharge Detection

Separate LPF and HPF discharge detection can be configured to identify normal overcurrent behavior as well as smaller, high-frequency discharges such as arc and corona events.

7-inch Touch Panel

The touchscreen presents test settings, operating information, diagrams, and status information through an interface designed for efficient setup and operation.

Faster Test-Cycle Control

AC start-phase control can begin the waveform approximately 90 degrees from the zero crossing under supported settings, reducing the need for a conventional voltage rise interval in applicable production tests.

Current Measurement and PASS / FAIL Judgment

Built-in voltage and current measurement supports programmable upper and lower current limits, with automatic output shutdown when a fail condition is detected.

LAN / USB / RS232C Automation

Standard LXI-compatible LAN, USB 2.0 with USBTMC support, and RS232C enable integration into automated safety-test systems and production environments.

Discharge Detection and DC Test Safety Control

The TOS5401 provides both discharge-event detection during withstand testing and a forced-discharge function after DC testing. These are separate functions designed for different parts of the test process.

During a withstand test, discharge detection monitors the EUT separately from the normal upper-current judgment. Selectable low-pass and high-pass detection modes allow the instrument to respond to different discharge characteristics.

LPF Detection Fast, Medium, and Slow response settings support conventional withstand-current monitoring.
HPF Detection High, Medium, and Low sensitivity settings target small and high-frequency discharge events.
DC Forced Discharge Discharges stored energy from a capacitive EUT after completion of a DC withstand test.
Start Long Optional hold-to-start operation helps reduce unintended initiation of a high-voltage test.

For DC withstand testing, the forced-discharge circuit uses a 125 kΩ discharge resistance. KIKUSUI specifies a maximum capacitance of 1 µF for discharge within approximately two seconds; higher capacitance can be tested but requires additional discharge time.
