Integrated 5G NR RF, Protocol and Application Testing

The Anritsu MT8000A Radio Communication Test Station is a modular 5G development platform combining RF measurement, protocol testing, base-station emulation, and application testing for 5G NR devices and chipsets across FR1 and FR2.

The MT8000A supports FR1 frequencies to 7.125 GHz and 5G FR2 millimeter-wave configurations, with both Standalone (SA) and Non-Standalone (NSA) network operation. Its 5G base-station emulation capability enables controlled communications between the test network and user equipment for RF, signalling, functional, mobility, and application-level evaluation.

The modular architecture allows the MT8000A environment to be configured for functions including handover, Dynamic Spectrum Sharing, 5G RedCap, NTN, high-throughput testing, and mmWave OTA evaluation. Appropriate RF modules, measurement software, network simulation software, RF converters, and OTA equipment are selected according to the required test configuration.

5G NR FR1 and FR2 Testing

The MT8000A platform supports 5G NR testing in FR1 up to 7.125 GHz and in FR2 millimeter-wave bands. Actual frequency and measurement capability depend on the installed RF hardware and test configuration.

5G Base Station Emulation

Built-in base-station emulation enables controlled 5G communications between the test system and user equipment for RF, protocol, functional, and application testing.

Standalone and Non-Standalone Testing

The platform supports both 5G NR Standalone and Non-Standalone test environments and can be linked with Anritsu LTE measurement resources for NSA configurations.

RF Measurement

Configurable RF measurement functions support development and verification of 5G NR transmit and receive performance across supported FR1 and FR2 configurations.

Protocol and Signalling Testing

Protocol test environments support configurable network sequences and parameters for evaluating communications procedures, mobility, signalling behavior, and device interoperability.

Application and Functional Testing

GUI-based network simulation supports application-oriented testing including handover, quasi-normal and abnormal network conditions, software regression, and other functional device evaluations.

Carrier Aggregation and MIMO

Modular RF configurations support demanding 5G carrier aggregation and MIMO test environments, including 4x4 MIMO and multi-component-carrier configurations.

High-Speed IP Throughput Testing

SmartStudio NR IP Performance software provides efficient IP throughput testing across multiple frequency-band, carrier aggregation, and MIMO combinations.

Handover Testing

Network emulation and protocol software can reproduce mobility scenarios for evaluating 5G handover behavior and continuity of device communications.

Dynamic Spectrum Sharing

The MT8000A supports throughput measurements under Dynamic Spectrum Sharing conditions with different NR and LTE spectrum-allocation conditions.

FR2 OTA and Beamforming Tests

When combined with appropriate Anritsu OTA equipment and RF hardware, the MT8000A supports millimeter-wave RF, signalling, and beamforming evaluation using over-the-air call connections.

Modular and Expandable Architecture

Configurable RF modules and software allow the test station to be adapted as 5G requirements evolve, while a newer RF hardware option extends the platform into the 7.125 GHz to 16 GHz Lower-FR3 range for future development.
