All-in-One BERT and Sampling Oscilloscope for Optical Module Testing

The Anritsu MP2110A BERTWave combines bit error rate testing and high-speed waveform analysis in a configurable platform developed for multichannel optical module and device evaluation.

Designed for both development and manufacturing environments, the MP2110A can integrate up to four BERT channels and up to four sampling oscilloscope channels in one instrument. This architecture supports efficient parallel evaluation of multichannel optical transceivers while reducing the complexity of systems that otherwise require separate BERT and oscilloscope platforms.

The MP2110A is particularly suited to optical transceiver and optical-device production where BER results and transmitter waveform quality must be evaluated efficiently across multiple lanes. Supported applications include Ethernet and optical transport systems as well as SFP, QSFP, CFP, OSFP, QSFP-DD, AOC/DAC, TOSA/ROSA, and optical-engine testing.

Integrated BERT and Sampling Oscilloscope

Combines BER measurement and waveform-quality analysis in one platform, simplifying optical transceiver Tx/Rx test configurations and reducing instrument switching during production testing.

Configurable 1, 2 or 4-Channel Architecture

PAM4 analysis configurations support TDECQ and related optical transmitter measurements. Current 60 GHz optical configurations extend PAM4 evaluation to signals up to 120 Gbaud for 200G/lane applications.

Parallel and simultaneous channel measurement helps reduce test time when evaluating multichannel optical transceivers and multiple devices in manufacturing environments.

Understanding MP2110A 1.6T and PAM4 Test Capability

The MP2110A's application range extends to 1.6T optical modules, but the capabilities of the sampling oscilloscope and built-in BERT should be considered separately.

For next-generation optical transmitter evaluation, current MP2110A optical sampling oscilloscope configurations provide up to 60 GHz bandwidth and support PAM4 optical measurements up to 120 Gbaud. This enables waveform-quality and TDECQ evaluation for 200G/lane optical signals used in 800G and 1.6T-class optical transceivers.

The integrated MP2110A BERT operates within its specified bit-rate ranges of 24.3 to 28.2 Gbit/s and, with the applicable option, 9.5 to 14.2 Gbit/s. Therefore, the MP2110A should not be described as an integrated 120 Gbaud PAM4 BERT.

Applications requiring advanced high-speed electrical PAM4 BER generation and analysis, PCI Express, USB or other high-speed serial-bus testing should be evaluated separately using the appropriate Anritsu high-speed BERT platform.
