Low-Noise RF/Microwave Signal Generation from 9 kHz to 70 GHz

The Anritsu Rubidium MG362x1A Series provides high-purity RF and microwave signal generation for demanding component, subsystem, and measurement-system applications.

The series includes the MG36221A covering 9 kHz to 20 GHz, the MG36241A covering 9 kHz to 43.5 GHz, and the MG36271A covering 9 kHz to 70 GHz. All three models provide 0.001 Hz frequency resolution and support configurations for enhanced phase-noise performance, frequency stability, output power, modulation, and automated testing.

The standard internal time base is an OCXO. Higher-stability configurations include the optional low-phase-noise/high-stability reference and an optional internal rubidium time base. Step and list frequency sweeps are supported across the series, while analog frequency sweep is available as an option on the MG36221A and MG36241A.

Three Frequency Ranges up to 70 GHz

Choose the MG36221A for measurements through 20 GHz, the MG36241A for coverage through 43.5 GHz, or the MG36271A for applications extending to 70 GHz.

Low Phase Noise and High Signal Purity

The MG362x1A platform is designed for low-noise RF and microwave generation, with optional low-phase-noise and ultra-low-phase-noise configurations available for more demanding measurements.

Optional Rubidium Frequency Reference

The standard time base uses an OCXO. Option 56 adds an internal rubidium ultra-stability time base for applications requiring atomic-clock-class frequency stability and requires Option 3 or Option 13.

High Output Power Options

Standard output power varies by model and frequency, while the optional high-power configuration extends available leveled output power for applications requiring additional source level.

Flexible Analog and Pulse Modulation

Configurable modulation capabilities include AM, FM, phase modulation, pulse modulation, pulse-train generation, and user-defined modulation for a range of signal-simulation requirements.

Automation and Remote Control

Gigabit Ethernet and GPIB interfaces support remote instrument control using SCPI and Anritsu native commands, including compatibility-oriented workflows for automated test systems.

Configuration Notes

Rubidium frequency reference: The MG362x1A name does not mean that an internal rubidium time base is standard. The standard time base is an OCXO. The internal rubidium ultra-stability time base is Option 56 and requires Option 3 or Option 13.

Analog frequency sweep: Option 6 is available on the MG36221A and MG36241A only. When Option 6 is installed, the minimum CW frequency changes from 9 kHz to 10 MHz.

Premium phase-noise configuration: Option 23 Premium Phase Noise CW is available on the MG36221A and requires Options 3 and 13. Anritsu specifies measured phase noise of -140 dBc/Hz at a 10 GHz carrier and 10 kHz offset for this configuration.

Modulation configuration: Option 12 provides AM, FM, and phase modulation, while Option 26 provides pulse modulation. Internal modulation operation requires the applicable modulation hardware configuration.

Remote interfaces: Ethernet and GPIB are the primary remote-control interfaces. The instrument also provides USB ports for peripherals; USB should not be described as a native instrument remote-control interface.
