The Anritsu MD8475B provides a controlled cellular network environment for evaluating LTE and LTE-Advanced devices without relying on a live commercial network.

The platform combines base station simulation, RF interfaces, packet communication functions, and SmartStudio software in a single test environment. It supports LTE FDD/TDD and LTE-Advanced carrier aggregation together with W-CDMA/HSPA, GSM/GPRS/EGPRS, and TD-SCDMA/TD-HSPA, allowing multimode devices to be evaluated across cellular technologies and between cells.

SmartStudio simplifies test configuration by allowing network and UE conditions to be changed through a GUI rather than requiring a separate signalling scenario for every functional test. Applications include VoLTE and IMS service verification, CS fallback, handover and cell reselection, IP throughput, battery-consumption testing, WLAN offload, and automated regression testing.

LTE and LTE-Advanced Testing

Supports LTE FDD/TDD, 2×2 and 4×4 MIMO, and LTE-Advanced carrier aggregation configurations from 2CC through 5CC for functional and performance evaluation of wireless devices.

Multimode Cellular Support

In addition to LTE, configurable hardware and software support W-CDMA/HSPA/HSPA Evolution/DC-HSDPA, GSM/GPRS/EGPRS, and TD-SCDMA/TD-HSPA for multimode and inter-RAT testing.

SmartStudio GUI

SmartStudio MX847570B provides GUI-based control of base station parameters, signalling states, packet communications, and UE test conditions, reducing the need to build complex signalling scenarios for routine functional tests.

VoLTE and IMS Service Testing

A built-in CSCF server function supports VoLTE and other IMS service tests. Simple GUI-based operation is available for common tests, while optional IMS scripting supports more complex or irregular SIP sequences.

Multi-Cell and Mobility Testing

Reproduce Cell Selection and Reselection, Redirection, Cell Change, handover, and CS Fallback conditions to evaluate device behavior as network and RF conditions change.

Built-In IP Traffic Generation

The integrated traffic-generation environment supports LTE data-throughput evaluation without requiring the test throughput to depend entirely on an external PC and Ethernet traffic server configuration.

Battery-Consumption Test Environment

SmartStudio can reproduce RF, paging, packet-communication, and RRC-state conditions used for device power-consumption evaluation. SmartStudio Manager can coordinate test sequences and supported peripheral equipment for repeatable battery testing.

Automated Regression Testing

SmartStudio Manager MX847503A edits and executes test sequences automatically and continuously, supporting unattended functional regression tests and Pass/Fail reporting.

Integrated RF Front End

The MD8475B integrates the RF test environment into the base station simulator, with a 350 MHz to 6.0 GHz hardware frequency range and configurations supporting four TX/two RX as standard and up to eight TX/four RX with the applicable configuration.
