High-Speed Optical Spectrum Analysis from 600 nm to 1750 nm

The Anritsu MS9740B combines wide wavelength coverage, high optical resolution, wide dynamic range, and fast sweep performance for detailed spectrum evaluation of lasers, optical devices, transceivers, and optical networks.

Covering wavelengths from 600 nm to 1750 nm, the MS9740B supports both conventional single-mode optical communications wavelengths and shorter-wavelength multimode applications such as 850 nm VCSEL evaluation. The standard instrument provides resolution settings down to 0.03 nm and supports SM fiber and 50 µm/125 µm GI multimode fiber.

600–1750 nm Wide wavelength coverage supports VCSELs, laser diodes, optical transceivers, WDM devices, and optical amplifiers.
30 pm Resolution The standard MS9740B provides resolution settings down to 0.03 nm for detailed optical spectrum characterization.
Up to 70 dB Dynamic Range High dynamic range supports characterization of closely spaced spectral components and side modes under specified measurement conditions.

Dedicated analysis functions simplify measurements of DFB and Fabry-Perot laser diodes, LEDs, WDM signals and filters, optical amplifier gain and noise figure, polarization mode dispersion, and optical transceiver modules. Ethernet and optional GPIB interfaces support integration into automated optical-device R&D and production systems.

600 nm to 1750 nm Wavelength Coverage

One benchtop OSA covers short-wavelength multimode applications as well as 1310 nm, 1550 nm, and other wavelengths used for optical communications and photonic devices.

Resolution Down to 0.03 nm

The standard MS9740B provides selectable resolution settings from 0.03 nm to 1.0 nm for detailed laser, WDM, and optical-device spectrum measurements.

Wide Dynamic Range

High Dynamic mode provides up to 70 dB dynamic range at specified wavelength offsets, supporting side-mode and closely spaced optical-spectrum evaluation.

Fast Optical Spectrum Sweeping

Sweep times can be as short as 0.2 seconds for a 5 nm span and 0.3 seconds for a 500 nm span under specified settings, supporting high-throughput optical-device measurements.

Single-Mode and Multimode Fiber Support

The standard instrument supports ITU-T G.652 single-mode fiber and 50 µm/125 µm GI multimode fiber. The MS9740B-009 option extends the optical interface to 62.5 µm/125 µm GI fiber.

Dedicated Optical Device Analysis

Built-in analysis applications support DFB-LD, FP-LD, LED, optical amplifier, PMD, WDM, LD module, and WDM filter measurements without requiring separate offline analysis.

Wavelength Calibration Option

The MS9740B-002 internal wavelength-calibration light source supports wavelength accuracy of ±20 pm from 1520 nm to 1620 nm under the specified calibration and resolution conditions.

High-Power Optical Input

With the optical attenuator enabled, the MS9740B supports optical input levels up to +23 dBm within the specified wavelength range and environmental conditions.

Automated Test Integration

Ethernet remote control is supported as standard, with optional GPIB control for integration into automated optical-device development and manufacturing systems.

Optical Interface and Measurement Options

MS9740B-009 Multimode Fiber Interface: The standard MS9740B supports single-mode fiber and 50 µm/125 µm GI multimode fiber. The MS9740B-009 configuration additionally supports 62.5 µm/125 µm GI multimode fiber. Because this option changes wavelength resolution and accuracy specifications, the standard and -009 specifications should not be treated as identical.

MS9740B-002 Wavelength Calibration Light Source: The internal wavelength-calibration light source enables wavelength calibration without an external reference source and supports ±20 pm wavelength accuracy from 1520 nm to 1620 nm under the specified measurement conditions.

MS9740B-020 Optical Pulse Measurement: This software option supports spectrum measurement of pulsed laser-diode output under asynchronous conditions without requiring an external trigger input. Under the specified conditions, Anritsu specifies SMSR reproducibility of ±1.4 dB for the standard MS9740B and ±1.8 dB with MS9740B-009 installed.

Remote Control: Ethernet supports PC-based remote operation and SCPI control. GPIB remote control is available with the applicable MS9740B-001 interface option. USB ports are intended for peripherals and file transfer rather than being presented as the primary remote-control interface.
