The Anritsu MS2840A Spectrum Analyzer / Signal Analyzer is designed for detailed RF signal characterization in research, development, and manufacturing applications where carrier-close-in phase noise and signal quality are important measurement parameters.

The MS2840A is available in frequency configurations covering 9 kHz to 3.6 GHz, 6 GHz, 26.5 GHz, or 44.5 GHz. Its spectrum analyzer and signal analyzer capabilities support both conventional swept-frequency measurements and FFT-based analysis of signal behavior in the frequency and time domains.

In addition to general spectrum measurements, the Signal Analyzer function supports measurements such as Frequency vs. Time, Power vs. Time, Phase vs. Time, spectrogram, and CCDF. Optional measurement functions extend the platform for phase-noise measurement, noise-figure analysis, vector and analog modulation analysis, and other RF evaluation tasks.

Exceptional Close-In Phase-Noise Performance

The MS2840A is optimized for measurements where signals close to the carrier must be resolved accurately. Anritsu specifies –123 dBc/Hz at a 1 GHz carrier and 10 kHz offset across the frequency configurations.

Phase-Noise Measurement Capability

Vector and Analog Modulation Analysis

Designed for Phase-Noise-Sensitive RF Measurements

Close-in phase noise can limit the ability of a spectrum analyzer to distinguish low-level signals and spurious components located near a strong carrier. The MS2840A is designed specifically to improve measurement performance in these demanding conditions.

Anritsu specifies close-in SSB phase-noise performance of –123 dBc/Hz at a 1 GHz carrier and 10 kHz offset across all MS2840A frequency configurations. For the 3.6 GHz and 6 GHz configurations, Anritsu also publishes measured performance reaching –138 dBc/Hz at 1 GHz and –140 dBc/Hz at 150 MHz, both at a 10 kHz offset.

Combined with the optional Phase Noise Measurement function, this performance makes the MS2840A particularly suitable for characterization of RF signal sources, transmitters, local oscillators, and other devices where signal purity close to the carrier is an important design or production parameter.
