KIKUSUI PXB Series Bidirectional High-Capacity DC Power Supply

The KIKUSUI PXB Series combines programmable DC source operation and regenerative sink operation in a single high-capacity power supply for battery, EV, inverter, converter, and high-power electronics evaluation.

The current series includes a 10 kW / 50 V model and six 20 kW models covering source voltages from 50 V to 1500 V. Positive current supplies power to the DUT, while negative current absorbs power from the DUT and regenerates it to the facility AC line. CV, CC, and CP operating modes support a broad range of programmable power-test conditions.

10 kW / 20 kW High-capacity bidirectional power in a compact 3U platform
Up to 1500 V Seven current models from low-voltage/high-current through high-voltage testing
Source + Regeneration Supply or absorb DC power with over 90% regenerative efficiency at rated load
Up to 500 kW Parallel operation of up to 25 units

SEAM mode, programmable sequence operation, pulse and sine functions, configurable I-V characteristics, variable internal resistance, selectable response and slew rate, synchronized operation, LAN/USB/RS232C, isolated analog control, and PLC-ready digital I/O support integration into advanced R&D, validation, and automated test systems.

Bidirectional Source and Sink Operation

One PXB unit can source power to the DUT and absorb power from the DUT. Sink energy is converted and regenerated to the facility AC line for on-site reuse.

CV / CC / CP Control

Constant-voltage, constant-current, and constant-power operation provide programmable control for source and regenerative test conditions.

SEAM Mode

SEAM mode allows current to transition between source and sink directions without changing the voltage setting, helping suppress overshoot and undershoot during battery charge and discharge transitions.

Over 90% Regenerative Efficiency

At rated load, regenerative efficiency exceeds 90%. Regenerated energy is returned to the facility AC line for on-site consumption rather than being dissipated only as heat.

20 kW in 3U

The 20 kW PXB models combine high output capacity with a compact 3U rack form factor for high-density power-test systems.

Up to 1500 V

Voltage classes from 50 V through 1500 V support low-voltage, high-current devices as well as high-voltage EV and power-conversion systems.

Fast Dynamic Response

Output-voltage rise and fall times are typically 10 ms. Current rise/fall under the specified FAST CC condition is typically 5 ms, with charge/discharge switching typically 10 ms.

Stable Capacitive-Load Operation

Adjustable response and slew-rate settings help suppress oscillation and overshoot when testing DUTs with significant capacitive characteristics.

Variable Internal Resistance

In CV operation, programmable internal resistance can modify output voltage according to current, enabling simplified simulation of rechargeable batteries, wiring, and other resistance-dependent DC sources.

Programmable I-V Characteristics

Arbitrary I-V curves can be defined using 3 to 100 points in CV or CC operation for simulation of batteries and other voltage-current characteristics.

Sequence, Pulse, and Sine Functions

Up to 30 sequence programs and 10,000 total steps are supported. Pulse and sine functions provide additional programmable dynamic output profiles.

Up to 500 kW Parallel Expansion

Up to 25 units can operate in parallel under centralized master control. Consult KIKUSUI when configuring more than ten parallel units.

Integrated System Interfaces

LAN, USB, RS232C, isolated analog I/O, and configurable digital I/O support integration with PCs, measurement systems, and both sink- and source-type PLC interfaces.
