Impulse Winding Testing for General and Low-Inductance Coils
The ECG KOKUSAI DWX Series is an established impulse winding tester platform for nondestructive evaluation of coils and windings, with models covering test voltages up to 10 kV.
The tester applies the same capacitor-discharge impulse to a master coil and the coil under test, then compares the resulting voltage-decay waveforms. Differences in the response waveform can be used to evaluate winding characteristics, including turn and layer shorts, differences in the number of turns, and insulation-related abnormalities.
A resistive voltage-divider input circuit and high-speed sampling allow detailed acquisition of short impulse-response waveforms. Evaluation methods include Area Size Comparison, Differential Area Comparison, Flutter Value, and Laplacian-based analysis.
The series includes the DWX-01A, DWX-05A, and DWX-10A, allowing the tester to be selected according to the required applied-voltage range and coil inductance.
