High-Speed Rotational Torque Measurement for Ball Bearings

The Sugawara Bearing Torque Tester is designed to measure rotational friction torque in ball bearings over a wide speed range while applying controlled axial load to the bearing.

During measurement, the bearing inner ring is driven at controlled speed while axial force is applied. The system detects the reactive torque of the outer ring, allowing bearing friction characteristics to be evaluated under different rotational speeds, loads, and optional temperature conditions.
0.5–100,000 r/minWide rotational-speed range from very low to ultra-high speed
10 mN·mMaximum measurable bearing torque
40 NMaximum controlled axial pushing force
-40 to 100°COptional temperature-controlled bearing evaluation range
Bearing size coverage extends from an inner diameter of 2 mm to an outer diameter of 35 mm. Torque, rotational speed, axial force, and temperature can be monitored in real time and output as analog voltage signals for external recording or analysis.

0.5–100,000 r/min Measurement

Covers bearing friction behavior from very low rotational speed through ultra-high-speed operating conditions.

10 mN·m Torque Capacity

Measures small rotational torque values required for evaluating bearing friction and loss characteristics.

Controlled Axial Loading

Applies axial force up to 40 N to reproduce defined bearing loading conditions during torque measurement.

Wide Bearing Size Coverage

Supports bearings from 2 mm inner diameter up to 35 mm outer diameter.

Temperature-Controlled Testing

An optional temperature-control configuration enables bearing torque evaluation from -40 to 100°C.

Measurement Principle

The Bearing Torque Tester measures the reactive rotational torque generated at the bearing outer ring while the inner ring is driven under controlled axial load.

This measurement method enables bearing friction to be evaluated as a function of rotational speed, preload, and temperature. Sequence control allows speed and load conditions to be varied continuously during automated measurement.
