High-Speed, High-Accuracy Optical Wavelength Measurement

The ADCMT 8471 measures the wavelength and frequency of laser sources from 630 to 1650 nm for laser diode adjustment, stability analysis, calibration, and automated production testing.

A stabilized He-Ne laser provides the reference wavelength, while the Michelson interferometer method enables high-accuracy measurement across visible and near-infrared wavelengths. The instrument displays wavelength in vacuum or standard air and optical frequency in THz.

630 to 1650 nm Broad wavelength coverage from visible to near-infrared
±2 ppm ±1 pm High measurement accuracy in LASER mode
10 Measurements/s Captures wavelength variation during adjustment and testing
0.0001 nm Maximum display resolution using ten or more averages

The 8471 supports high-resolution measurement of the emission-center wavelength and frequency of laser diodes used in DWDM systems. Frequency and deviation displays assist with adjustment to an ITU-T frequency grid and evaluation of wavelength drift caused by temperature or current changes.

Up to 10,000 data sets can be stored internally for long-term measurements without a continuously connected PC. Standard USB and GPIB interfaces support automated measurement and external data collection.

He-Ne Laser Reference

A stabilized He-Ne laser provides the internal wavelength reference for accurate and stable optical wavelength measurement.

Michelson Interferometer Method

Interferometric measurement provides high resolution and accuracy for laser diode wavelength and emission-center-frequency analysis.

Wide 630 to 1650 nm Range

Measure optical signals from 630 to 1650 nm or display the corresponding frequency from 182 to 476 THz.

High-Speed Sampling

A maximum measurement rate of 10 times per second captures wavelength changes during laser adjustment and temperature-related variation.

Resolution Down to 0.1 pm

Standard maximum resolution is 0.001 nm, with 0.0001 nm display resolution available when averaging ten or more measurements.

Wavelength and Frequency Display

Display results in nm using vacuum or standard-air wavelength, or in THz for frequency-based laser adjustment.

Deviation Measurement

Display wavelength deviation from a manually entered reference or a previously measured reference value.

10,000-Data Memory

Store up to 10,000 measurement data sets internally with a configurable measurement interval for extended monitoring.

USB and GPIB Interfaces

Standard USB and GPIB connectivity supports PC data acquisition and integration into automated laser-diode test systems.

Measurement accuracy depends on the spectral linewidth of the input light. An additional error equal to one-tenth of the wavelength full width at half maximum applies according to the input linewidth.
