The ADCMT 5450 and 5451 are 5½-digit ultra-high resistance meters developed for insulation resistance, material resistivity and low-current measurement. They cover microcurrent measurements from 1 fA to 19.9999 mA and resistance measurements from 10 Ω to 3 × 1017 Ω.

An integrated bipolar voltage source provides outputs from ±1 mV to ±1000 V, supporting positive- and negative-voltage testing of insulating materials, capacitors, semiconductors and reverse-biased devices. Measurement speeds of up to 1,000 readings per second and 65,000-data internal memory also support automated inspection and production testing.

The 5450 supports floating measurements up to 1000 V peak, making it suitable for DUTs grounded on one side, including cables, transformers and photovoltaic modules. The 5451 supports floating measurements up to 46 V peak and provides the same core resistance, current and voltage-source capabilities for standard laboratory and production applications.

Ultra-High Resistance and Microcurrent Measurement

Measure resistance from 10 Ω to 3 × 1017 Ω and current from 1 fA to 19.9999 mA. The wide range supports insulating materials, electronic components and semiconductor devices.

Bipolar ±1000 V Source

The integrated voltage source supplies positive or negative voltage from ±1 mV to ±1000 V. Programmable current limits help protect devices if breakdown or excessive leakage occurs.

Floating Measurement for Grounded DUTs

The 5450 supports floating measurements up to 1000 V peak for grounded cables, transformers, photovoltaic modules and other devices. The 5451 supports floating measurements up to 46 V peak.

Selectable Ammeter Response

Select the response speed according to measurement conditions, balancing fast response against noise immunity for stable low-current measurements in different test environments.

Preset and Sequence Functions

Ten application presets simplify common resistivity, insulation resistance and leakage-current tests. Seven sequence programs automate charging, measurement and discharge procedures.

Graphical Time-Course Display

Display current changes over time to confirm that absorption current has stabilized before recording capacitor leakage current or insulation resistance results.

Contact Check Function

Detect connection failures between capacitive DUTs and the measurement cable or electrode. Open calibration compensates for cable and fixture capacitance before checking the connection.

Automation Interfaces

Standard USB, GPIB, handler and analog-output interfaces support automated test systems. BCD output is available as a factory option, and an interlock helps prevent unintended high-voltage output.

Insulating Material Resistivity

Measure the surface or volume resistivity of plastics, films, rubber, ceramics, glass, paper, oils and other insulating materials using compatible resistivity chambers.

Capacitor Leakage and Insulation Resistance

Evaluate capacitor leakage current and insulation resistance while observing charge, absorption and steady-state leakage behavior over time.

Semiconductor Leakage Current

Apply positive or negative bias voltage and measure low-level leakage current in semiconductor devices, APDs and related electronic components.

PCB Insulation Testing

Measure insulation resistance and leakage current between conductors, patterns and terminals on printed circuit boards.

Battery and Material Evaluation

Characterize insulation and leakage properties of secondary-battery materials, separators and other high-resistance materials.

Photovoltaic PID Testing

Use the 5450’s 1000 V floating capability to measure leakage current between photovoltaic cells and grounded module frames during potential-induced degradation evaluation.

Cable and Transformer Insulation

Evaluate the insulation resistance of grounded cables, transformers and similar equipment using the 5450’s high-voltage floating measurement.

Automated Component Inspection

Combine high-speed measurement, contact checking, internal memory and the handler interface for automated Go/No-Go inspection of electronic components.
